12TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

jesuscross

“For those who want to save their life will lose it (Luke 9.24). Jesus says that his followers must deny themselves. In other words, disciples are those who belong to Christ. We lose our lives so that we may be one life in Christ Jesus.

We are all one in Christ. How can we be one in Christ when we are Catholic and Protestant, fundamentalist and free thinker, men and women? In terms of faith expression, unity is possible only in Christ; mystics like Francis of Assisi or Teresa of Avila are living proof that God does exist. Let us pray to God that we become faithful disciples, that we may conquer our fears, that we may take up ourcross daily, that we follow Jesus toward true life by recognizing that we are called by name into a relationship with God and one another.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL THE FATHERS OF ASCENSION PARISH.

11TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

5b52“It is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me" (Galatians 2.20). Stewardship is about identity, our identity in Christ. As stewards, not only do we treat others as thought they were Jesus himself but through us Christ continues His ministry to the world. When we forgive, heal, welcome and serve, love for Jesus increases. We are stewards of the mystery of salvation!

The journey towards salvation was initiated by God, and everything we need toward the journey is supplied by God, though salvation is never forced on us. To be saved we must acknowledge our sinfulness, but admission never comes easily. Forgiveness does not mean the cancellation of our sins or our punishment; it is the refusal of God to let our guilty past affect His relationship with us. To say "I am sorry" means that I am a work in progress, we need to say it in order to communicate honestly with God and one another, to be able to experience God's love and compassion. There is no failure in being capable of saying "I am sorry"; saying it will transform our lives and relations with one another.

OWNERSHIP CHANGE OF SANDSTONE VALLEY ECUMENICAL CENTRE JULY 1, 2010 Ascension Parish Finance Council, under an agreement with Mount Calvary Lutheran Church will assume full ownership and management of Sandstone Valley Ecumenical Centre on July 1. Our Lutheran partner of 27+ years will be leaving the center within 90 days with our best wishes and prayers. Two appraisal reports commissioned for this decision valued our center at $7 million and Ascension purchased their full interest in the land, building and equipment for $2.9 million, with funds borrowed through the Diocese. As sole owners of the Centre we will continue to meet our growing parish needs and maintain access for the many groups who use our facility. At present SVEC is home to about 15 groups (non-profit, community, commercial and churches) renting the gym, rooms and Lutheran sanctuary, as well as our own needs for space. Finance Council is working to complete the changes needed to operate the Center and we welcome your input.
