3RD SUNDAY OF LENT

jesus_curses_fig_tree

“The bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed. (Exodus 3. 2).

The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, named himself "I AM". God is being. When we are blazing with God in the life of discipleship God's being is in us and we are not consumed.

Lent is the time to become truly aware of the world we live in; God is really in whatever and whoever is standing beside us. It is when we face God in one another that the spiritual journey begins. In this season of Lent we are called to the work of repentance, young and old; faithful and unfaithful, we are all in need of a change of heart. Let us live our lives in a manner attentive to see the face of God in one another and in creation, always thanking God for his favours on us.

2ND SUNDAY OF LENT

“Our citizenship is in heaven” (Philippians 3.20)

We identify ourselves by the groups in which we have membership: family, church, sporting teams, clubs. Over time, these groups form us and we conform to the values they promote. As disciples, our first membership is with the company in heaven where Christ transforms the body of our humiliation that it may be conformed to the body of his glory.

The meaning of lent requires a transfiguration of our minds and hearts, in which our words and gestures give evidence that we believe there is someone for us; God reveals himself in very ordinary ways, through ordinary people. Let us pray to God that we might see as He sees. With thanksgiving for God’s favours on us today.

1ST SUNDAY OF LENT

db-f161v-m

“I bring the first of the fruit of the ground that you, O Lord, have given me (Deuteronomy 26.10).

A sense of gratitude is the only source of joyful generosity (Bishop Morneau).

The intent of Lent is to provide us with opportunity to temper our words, actions and behaviour so that Jesus shines       through for all to see. We are fashioned at God’s own image, we are dust but at the same time we are made a little less than the angels through the mercy and love of God. Let us thank God for his favours on us today.
