The Children’s Liturgy of the Word is designed for children from ages 4 -7. The purpose of the Liturgy of the Word is to give children an experience of liturgy: of coming together to listen to God’s message presented in simple terms at their level of comprehension but always faithful to the original scripture texts. Then together they find someway to express their response in prayers, songs, gestures, drawings or dramatization. Its purpose is to prepare the children for adult participation.

Just before the first reading the priest invites the leaders and the children to gather in front of the altar. He blesses them and sends them forth to experience their own Liturgy of the Word. As soon as the homily for the adults is finished the usher will signal the leaders to return the children to the church proper. This gives ample time to get the children ready and volunteers deliver the children back quietly during the preparation of the gifts.

In order to run our program we do require that we have the proper ratio of screened parent support to help supervise the children as well we need 2 screened Children’s Liturgy of the Word Instructors per class. Please refer to the registration form on our website, fill it out and bring it to a registration time/appointment with our administration office.

The purpose of the registration form will be to determine, based on volunteer commitment, which Masses will have the program to ensure the correct number of adult supervision to child ratio. We will have CLW at every Mass volunteer response permitting.
