CATECHESIS CORNER : Week of January 19/20, 2019
We have come back to “Ordinary Time” in the Church year. We may be surprised, but this time is anything but Ordinary. The readings, songs, prayers and other elements of the Divine Office and Mass all focus on Christian growth. Thus the colour worn by the priests (and encouraged to be worn by the people as has been the custom in many places in the Roman Catholic Church’s history) is green. Green symbolizes joy, growth and peace. May we pray the Divine Office (see www.universalis.com) and go to Mass remembering that we are “to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord a Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet. 3:18).
Application: The Church encourages all Catholics to pray the Divine Office. Let us pray the “Morning Prayer” three days this week and remember to thank God every day for His many blessings.
